Overview

We are saddened to share the passing of our long-time partner, colleague and friend, Craig Carter.

Craig’s professional life has largely been with Fasken. He joined the Firm as an associate in 1985 and became a partner in 1987. An engaged real estate lawyer in the Toronto office, the rest of the bar came to him from across Ontario as he shared his knowledge freely and helped to solve their problems. Craig’s passing is a great loss to the Firm and his clients, he was an incredibly thoughtful man with a tremendous mind.

Craig was involved in extensive continuing legal education for the legal profession. He chaired many programs for the OBA and Law Society, and had given papers for the Law Society, OBA, Canadian Institute, Insight and Federated Press. He was an adjunct Professor of Real Estate Transactions Queen's Law School and Osgoode Hall Law School. A past lecturer LLM in Real Estate and LLM in Banking and Insolvency at Osgoode Hall Law School, past lecturer, Bar Admission Course Real Estate and Landlord and Tenant for Law Society, past Associate Head, Bar Admission Course - Real Estate and Landlord and Tenant, and past instructor, Business Law at Ryerson.

In recent years, the legal and broader communities had taken note of his impact, honouring him, among other ways, with the Law Society Medal in 2015, the Ontario Bar Association's Distinguished Service Award in 2017 and a Decade of Distinction Award from Big Brothers of Metropolitan Toronto.

Please join us in extending our condolences to Craig's spouse Anne, their family and his many friends both within and outside the Firm. He will be greatly missed.
