Overview

We are saddened to share the news of the passing of our long-time friend, colleague and partner Mark Stinson.

Mark passed away on July 19, 2022  at his cottage of heart failure, sooner than any of us had expected or hoped for. He was 66 years of age.

Humble to his core, Mark had the confidence of clients around the world, receiving recognition for this as a Stand-out lawyer in the prestigious Thomson Reuters survey of global legal counsel.

As a long-standing Leader of our Asia Pacific Practice Group, he grew the Firm’s Japanese practice through his dedication to clients and his dedication to getting on planes, travelling to Japan and meeting clients on their home ground. He was also a past Leader of the firm’s Retailing, Distribution and Franchising group and a member of the Firm’s Automotive group, regularly advising manufacturers, parts suppliers, dealers and other industry participants. He was a favourite of so many Canadian and American clients in these industries and in his general business practice.

While serving those organizations with professional excellence, Mark was adored by mentees across the Firm for his even-handed style. He was also so beloved by staff; every interaction with Mark was a positive one. He was a quiet voice; when he spoke it was next-to-impossible to disagree with him.

We are grateful for his leadership, his service and his example.

Please join us in extending our heartfelt condolences to Mark’s wife Stephanie, their children Michael and Gillian, their granddaughter Adelaide, and their entire family.

Our heartful condolences also go out to Mark’s many friends, both within the Firm and beyond.
