Overview

Laura is an accomplished class action litigator with over twenty-five years of experience defending complex cases. She regularly represents global clients in a wide variety of industries in the defence of class actions including with respect to privacy and cyber-security, competition, securities and consumer issues. Laura is Chair of Fasken’s firm-wide Litigation group and Fasken’s Class Actions practice group.

Laura is a results driven and innovative legal thinker focused on providing business solutions. She has been leading counsel in many notable cases, including currently in significant matters for Equifax and Capital One involving ground breaking decisions in privacy/cyber-security litigation. Laura frequently leads counsel teams across the firm in complex class action matters and provides top-notch representation and excellent client service. Many of her cases have cross-border and international implications and Laura works closely with counsel in the U.S. and other jurisdictions to ensure strategic co-ordination of cases across borders.

Laura is continuously recognized around the world by legal directories such as Chambers Canada, Chambers Global, Lexpert, Legal 500 and Benchmark Litigation. She has repeatedly been named one of the “Top 25 Women Litigators in Canada’’ by Benchmark Litigation, is a recipient of the Lexpert Zenith Award celebrating leading female lawyers and is named as one of the Top 100 Women in Litigation by Benchmark. The Canadian Law Awards has named Laura an Excellence Awardee for Litigator of the Year 2022.

Throughout her career, Laura has been involved with the broader legal community. She was a founder of the Ontario Region’s pro bono program at Fasken and served as a director of Pro Bono Ontario, an organization that offers free legal assistance throughout the province. She is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and has acted as a director of the Advocates’ Society. Laura is a frequent presenter on class actions, is a skills instructor for The Advocates’ Society’s skills education programs and regularly acts as a mentor.
