Sean Stevens is Co-Leader of the Firm’s Capital Markets and Mergers & Acquisitions (CM and M&A) Group and the Chair of the Ontario Region’s Business Law Group. His practice is focused on domestic and cross border mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, corporate reorganizations and infrastructure projects. Clients include public and private companies, private equity funds and their investors, business owners and project sponsors and financers.
For two decades Sean has provided strategic advice to clients on transformational transactions. Clients rely on Sean for creative and pragmatic advice in structuring, negotiating and completing critical business transactions. Sean has led deals across a wide range of industries including communications, infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, technology and logistics, to name a few.
Sean regularly acts for business owners and their families in connection with corporate reorganizations, governance matters, succession planning and inter-generational business transitions designed to maximize and preserve value for owners and their families or, where appropriate, assisting owners with third party liquidity transactions to realize the value of their businesses. Sean works collaboratively with financial advisors, business valuators and tax advisors to achieve the best results for the Firm’s clients.
Sean is also a trusted advisor to several private equity and venture capital funds and provides strategic advice in connection with fund formation issues, negotiations with investors and ongoing governance matters, as well as on investments and dispositions by those funds.
In his infrastructure practice, Sean advises sponsors and financers in connection with complex infrastructure transactions, including public private partnerships (PPP), as well as both strategic and financial investors in their investments in critical infrastructure assets. Notable infrastructure transactions in which Sean has played a key role include the UC Merced 2020 Project (recognized by IJGlobal Americas as the 2016 North America Social Infrastructure Deal of the Year), the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit project (IJGlobal North American Rail Deal of the Year for 2015), the $1.9 billion Wataynikaneyap Power Transmission Project (IFLR 1000 Finance Deal of the Year for 2020) and Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec’s acquisition of Plenary’s North American infrastructure business. The Fasken Global Infrastructure and Projects Team was named North America’s 2018 “Public Sector Legal Adviser of the Year” by IJGlobal.
