Awale is a labour, employment, and human rights lawyer at Fasken’s Toronto office. He is an experienced litigator and provides practical legal advice and representation in all workplace related matters.
Awale maintains a broad labour, employment and human rights practice. Prior to pursuing a legal career, Awale operated a family business in Montreal for several years. Having previously acted as both employer and employee, Awale developed an acute interest in the complex legal and bureaucratic considerations often present within the workplace.
Awale obtained his Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School, and holds a Bachelor of Human Resource Management from York University During law school, Awale was the recipient of several awards of distinction, including the William and Nona Heaslip Scholarship for Academic Excellence and Community Service, the Bogoroch & Associates Scholarship and the John Platter ’96 Memorial Award.
While at Osgoode, Awale worked as a caseworker with both the Osgoode Business Clinic and the Investor Protection Clinic. In addition, Awale worked as a legal intern at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. During his time at the UN, he routinely assessed the merits of various claims made by UN staff members related to employment disputes, contractual breaches, fraud, sexual assault and drafted an array of legal memos pertaining to disciplinary matters.
Prior to joining the firm, Awale worked as a litigation associate at a regional full-service firm.
