Climate Action

Last year, we installed 340 solar panels on the roof of our Johannesburg office as a new alternative energy source. Through the efforts of our Climate Action Committee, we are taking action to assess and reduce the Firm’s environmental footprint by:

  • Developing systems to track GHG emissions and identify opportunities to reduce GHG emissions
  • Evaluating and establishing governance structures to progress our climate initiatives
  • Assisting regional ‘Green Teams’ tasked with designing and implementing environmental initiatives
  • Working towards carbon neutrality
  • Supporting recycling and plastic use reduction programs

Pro Bono

In 2023, our lawyers provided over 10,648 hours of pro bono legal support. Through over 484 pro bono matters we helped clients who required legal advice across a wide range of areas. We provided access to justice through pro bono workshops and helpdesks and assisted clients in matters ranging from family law and eviction matters in South Africa, to defending language rights in Quebec, and supporting Indigenous Peoples and their communities.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

We know meaningful change takes work, so we are committed to empowering all voices and fostering equity, diversity and inclusion with intentional action, constant learning and authentic engagement.

Our Commitment

Reconciliation

Reconciliation requires us to learn more about our collective history, understand how that history continues to affect the present, and apply what we learn to our own language, conduct and actions. Our reconciliation plan focuses on key goals, takes meaningful actions towards truth and reconciliation and is a response to the call to action to corporate Canada.

Community Involvement

We are dedicated to engaging with our communities by investing our time, expertise and philanthropy. We support community led initiatives with many of our members actively participating in these endeavours. In 2022, we continued our long standing support of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic movements through our partnerships with Team Canada, supported local and international relief efforts, and participated in the annual United Way workplace campaign.
