Mental illness does not show itself outwardly in the same way as physical injuries. This fact can create significant challenges for employers in relation to managing absences of and reasonably accommodating employees suffering from mental illness.
In this session we will discuss and provide guidance on the following situations:
- Disabled employees carrying out work-related duties while off work
- Requests for medical information in relation to employees with anxiety, trauma, stress and related disorders
- Employee entitlements to long term disability benefits and related issues that can arise where employees suffer from anxiety, trauma, stress and related disorders
- The fine line that can exist between medical restrictions and recommendations that would benefit an employee but are not medically required
