As the economy gradually reopens, business leaders need to adapt their operations. This webinar is designed to respond to frequently asked questions and provide valuable information for decision-makers in Canada and Japan on the evolving legal environment  for employers, how to approach interactions with government,  and current and potential changes to the government contracts process for government suppliers. The following topics will be covered:

Essential Business Regulation - Paul Burbank, Fasken

With experience first as an advisor to senior political leaders and now as lawyer whose practice is built around understanding serving as an advocate to government, Paul Burbank will explain the political process and legal mechanisms used by governments in Canada to address the COVID-19 crisis. He will highlight ways that he and his colleagues at Fasken have been effective at communicating with political leaders and other public officials during this extraordinary time.

Workplace Safety and Other Considerations for Employers - Christian Paquette, Fasken

Christian will discuss a range of workplace considerations which employers should keep in mind in the context of the pandemic (i) focusing on health and safety of employees, (ii) a framework to address work refusals, and (iii) the balance between health and safety, human rights, and privacy when requesting information from employees.

Doing Business with Government - Marcia Mills, Fasken

Drawing from  over a decade at the Department of Justice advising the Government of Canada on national security and some of the largest federal procurements in Canadian history, Marcia Mills will discuss government contracting during the Pandemic  and how COVID-19 may fundamentally shift government contracting in the future.
