Notwithstanding the already complex and challenging issues organizations face when addressing human rights and discrimination matters, recent extensive media coverage and significant public attention in the wake of the #MeToo & #BlackLivesMatter movements have created and continue to create waves as it relates to human rights and discrimination within the employment sector and beyond. Within this current context, there has been a heightened awareness of the enhanced risks to the reputation of organizations if they are not appropriately responsive to human rights obligations.

To help ensure your organization is informed and prepared, Fasken's Labour, Employment and Human Rights group invites you to attend the first session in our “2020, The Year in Review” Premier Webinar Series, focused on Human Rights, presented by our leading human rights lawyers from across Canada. During this live webinar, we will review significant human rights decisions, trends and issues facing organizations across Canada, and discuss what organizations can and should expect and plan for in the future.

Specific topics include:

  • Racism and Systemic Discrimination; important considerations for organizations
  • Latest developments regarding sexual harassment in the physical and virtual workplace
  • The expectations for investigations of allegations of racism and sexual harassment in the #BlackLivesMatter and #MeToo era
  • Preparing for the impact of family status issues in the workplace during the age of COVID-19 and beyond
  • Review of 'quantum of damages' awards in human rights complaints, including new high watermarks of which employers should be aware
