Western efforts to secure and control critical minerals have met with varying degrees of success. Funding programs, policy statements and strategies, Executive Orders, public condemnations, legislation and divestiture orders have all formed part of the constellation of Western action. But are these measures working? Do they go too far? Are they having the opposite effect, chasing capital and corporations from the very jurisdictions that need mineral inputs, accelerating deglobalization and distorting markets even further? And is there still one, unified West? Join us for a critical evaluation of the West’s efforts to secure mineral supply in an era of scarcity, geopolitical tension, and war.
