The unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine has had tremendous impacts on energy and food supply. Impacts of sanctions and Russian attempts to influence Europe by reducing hydrocarbon supply resulted in an energy crisis which dominated public discussion in 2022. Less attention has been given to the impacts of the invasion on minerals supply from Ukraine, Russia and the minerals supply globally. The session will focus on this and possible implications for Canadian national security decisions regarding minerals.
