For many years, while Canada led the FiveEyes security alliance in the legal authorities necessary to control inbound investment, it rarely exercised those powers. That all changed in 2018 when Canada leapt past its close allies, arguably becoming the most hawkish of western mining powers. Half a decade later, mining companies with "operations in Canada" are making drastic calculations about whether they can any longer afford to be Canadian or whether they should make the fateful decision to redomicile.
This panel will examine why companies would leave Canada, how it's done, and what Canada could do to reverse the trend -- through enticements, or by force of law.
