Heather is a member of the firm’s Indigenous Legal Matters Group, and Global Energy and Climate Group. She advises clients throughout Canada on a range of Indigenous related matters.
Heather is sought out by Indigenous governments to provide strategic advice on governance matters. She has experience assisting First Nations with developing and drafting laws, including for First Nations exercising jurisdiction over child and family services pursuant to An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, Youth and Families (C-92).
Heather also advises clients in the energy, mining and natural resource sectors on a variety of commercial and regulatory matters. Heather provides practical advice on Indigenous related legal issues, including with respect to consultation and accommodation obligations, FPIC, on-reserve development, procurement and relationship planning. She has particular experience assisting with Indigenous equity participation transactions and project-related agreements involving Indigenous nations. Heather also has experience assisting clients with environmental approvals, permitting and regulatory compliance issues, and other corporate transactions.
