Jessica J. Butler is a Law Clerk in the firm’s Toronto Private Client Services Group and Trusts, Wills, Estates and Charities Group and has worked in the legal profession for almost 10 years.
Jessica has extensive experience assisting executors and trustees in managing complex, high-value estates and trusts. Her work encompasses the administration of estates and trusts, with a focus on estate accounting and complex estate litigation. Assisting in all aspects of estates work, Jessica's primary responsibilities include providing support to the lawyers in the practice group, the day-to-day administration and management of estates and trusts, including gathering in assets, winding up of estates and trusts and distributing assets to beneficiaries. She is also well-versed in the area of domestic contracts, and has assisted with the preparation of a variety of effective marriage contracts and cohabitation agreements for different family and relationship structures.
Jessica is responsible for the preparation of all probate related documentation, the preparation of estate and trust accounts and the preparation of court documents for passing of accounts, both contested and uncontested. Her experience also includes complex estate litigation, such as will challenges and interpretations, mental incompetency litigation and power of attorney disputes.
