Overview

Jonathan is a Partner in Fasken’s Vancouver office and Co-Leader of the Firm’s National Litigation Management Team. He is a civil litigator practising in the areas of insurance litigation, product liability, transportation law (rail and truck), and general commercial litigation. 

Jonathan has extensive experience handling insurance, product liability, and commercial carrier claims. He regularly acts for various Canadian and foreign insurers; commercial carriers including a major Canadian railway company; and manufacturers and distributors in several industries including motor vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, industrial equipment, marine, medical devices, processed foods, firearms¸ personal electronics, and other consumer products.

Jonathan’s insurance litigation practice involves representing insurance companies and corporations in a wide range of claims including life and disability, accidental death, critical illness, creditor, personal injury, motor vehicle, occupiers liability, and general tort claims. He also has extensive experience handling insurance coverage disputes, subrogation claims, debt collection and enforcement, and general commercial litigation.

Jonathan’s product liability practice involves advising and representing manufacturers, distributors, and their insurers in a variety of claims including personal injury, property damage, fire loss, failure to warn, and defective manufacturing and design.

Jonathan has significant courtroom and mediation experience. He has represented clients at all levels of court in British Columbia including as lead trial counsel before the BC Supreme Court and lead appellate counsel before the BC Court of Appeal. Jonathan has also successfully mediated and negotiated hundreds of settlements, resulting in significant time and cost savings. Clients value his ability to provide practical, timely advice and achieve predictable litigation outcomes.

Jonathan regularly writes and speaks at conferences, conventions, and client seminars on topics relating to insurance and civil litigation. He also sits on the board of directors of the Canadian Bar Insurance Association as the representative of the British Columbia CBA branch.

Jonathan was recognized as one of Lexpert’s 2020 Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 and ranked as a Future Star by Benchmark Litigation in 2019.
