Overview

Martin is a lawyer practising in the area of banking and finance with a focus on Acquisition Financings. He regularly represents major Canadian private equity firms and is well versed in identifying trends in acquisition financing documentation. Martin is also deeply involved in representing major Canadian Arrangers and Underwriters in syndicated transactions.

He is also heavily involved in continuing education. As such, from 2017 to 2023 he led the American Bar Association’s Commercial Finance Syndications and Lender Relations Subcommittee, first as Vice Chair and then as Chair. He is a member of the Commercial Finance Programs Committee of the American Bar Association, and is a Fellow and Regent of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers. 

Martin is also the proud father to two young children, the oldest of whom is on the autistic spectrum, which has led Martin to involve himself in the community to be a voice and an ally for neurodivergent individuals. As such, he has been involved as a director of MAIH (Montreal Association for the Intellectually Handicapped) for the past 5 years.

  • Novacap announced successful exit from AGA Benefit Solutions, [Deal - AGA Financial Group Inc.], Sale of AGA Benefit Solutions by Novacap Financial Services and other vendors.
  • Montreal Mini-Storage secures $185 million in financing, [Deal - Montreal Mini-Storage], Credit facility of $185 million for Montreal Mini-Storage.
  • European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)/Zgounder mine expansion, [Deal - European Bank for Reconstruction and Development], Fasken acted for EBRD on the US$100 million project financing facility to Aya Gold for the upgrade and expansion of the Zgounder silver mine in Morocco. Funds were sourced both from EBRD (US$92 million) and Climate Investment Funds, through its Clean Technology Fund (CTF) (US$8 million).
  • Novacap acquired all of the issued and outstanding shares of Multy Home and Multy Home Europe as well as all of the issued and outstanding limited partnership interests of Multy Home Limited Partnership, [Deal - Novacap], Novacap acquires new cross-border partnership.
  • Novacap acquires controlling interest in Globe Electric, [Deal - Novacap], Novacap, a leading Canadian private equity firm, acquires an interest in Globe Electric.
  • eStruxture finalizes the acquisition of the Canadian data center business from Aptum Technologies and enters into a credit facility with Deutsche Bank Credit Solutions and Direct Lending, [Deal - eStruxture Data Centers Inc.], Digital Colony sells Aptum Technologies’ all eight Canadian data centers to eStruxture.
  • Novacap acquires Logibec, one of Canada's largest healthcare technology companies, [Deal - Novacap], Novacap Acquires Logibec.
  • Novacap Financial Services acquires interest in AGA Financial Group Inc., [Deal - Novacap Financial Services], Leading Canadian private equity firm makes third investment in financial services business using dedicated fund.
