Toronto (Canada) – Fasken Martineau, a leading international business law and litigation firm, announced today that it has taken an active role in three of Lexpert's Top 10 Deals of the Year, including "Deal of the Year".
Fasken Martineau advised on the following deals in 2013 :
- Deal of the year: Fasken Martineau advised Scotiabank on the financing of the transaction for Empire Company Limited and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sobeys Inc., to acquire substantially all of the assets of Canada Safeway Limited for a cash purchase price of CDN $5.8 billion. Scotiabank has provided Empire and Sobeys fully committed credit facilities for the full purchase price plus the transaction expenses required to close the acquisition. Fasken Martineau's team was led by John Torrey and included David Ferris (Banking and Finance), Bradley Freelan (Mergers & Acquisitions), Christopher Steeves (Tax), Anthony Baldanza (Competition), David Martin and Sergio Custodio (Real Property), Andrew Alleyne (Information Technology), Ross Gascho (Pensions) and Rosalind Cooper (Environmental).
- The CDN $5.1 billion offer for Inmet by First Quantum Minerals Ltd.
