Overview

Montréal (Canada) Louise Mailhot, AdE was recently appointed as an Officer of the National Order of Québec. Thirty-four notable Québec residents received one of the three grades of the National Order of Québec, the highest distinction awarded by the Government of Québec. The ceremony took place at the end of June in Québec City in the Legislative Council Chamber of the Parliament building.

A former judge on the Court of Appeal of Québec and former vice-president of the International Association of Judges, the Honorable Louise Mailhot is a member of Fasken’s Commercial Litigation and Labour, Employment and Human Rights Groups. In 1974 she was the first lawyer elected to the board of directors of the Barreau du Québec [Québec Bar] and the first lawyer from the Barreau de Montréal [Montréal Bar] appointed to the Court of Appeal of Québec. Active in social professional spheres, she has long promoted access to justice and the advancement of women, both nationally and internationally. She is a prolific author who has actively contributed as much to the legal community of Québec, as to that of Canada.

The Council of the National Order of Québec, founded in 1984, recommends nominations to the Prime Minister each year after evaluating applications submitted by the public.
