Toronto (Canada) – Fasken was awarded North America’s 2018 “Public Sector Legal Advisor of the Year” by Infrastructure Journal Global (IJGlobal) at the annual Americas awards last week in New York. No Canadian firm has received such recognition in the past in the North American market. In addition, two of the projects Fasken has acted on have also received “Deal of the Year” awards the same night.
The winning projects on which Fasken’s Infrastructure & Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) Group advised are:
- North America Roads Deal of the Year – Gordie Howe International Bridge (which has also been awarded “Deal of the Year” by Lexpert and “Transport Deal of the Year” by PFI)
Fasken advised the Government of Canada and Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority with respect to the Gordie Howe International Bridge Project. The is the largest and most ambitious bi-national infrastructure project along the Canada-United States border. The C$5.7 billion project includes the longest cable-stayed bridge span in North America (and one of the longest in the world), two port of entry facilities on each side of the Canada-United States border and the Highway I-75 interchange in Detroit.
- North America Social Infrastructure Deal of the Year – Royal Inland Hospital
Fasken represented Interior Health Authority with respect to the development of a new patient care tower at the Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital. The project includes the new tower and a 30 year operating period for the whole of the existing and new healthcare campus.
