Johannesburg (South Africa) – Fasken announces that the Renewable Energy IPP Programme (REIPPP 4) has won the Project Finance International 2018 African Programme of the Year.
Fasken advised on the project financing for 11 deals that will result in 1.2GW of electricity from both wind and solar energy. Costs for these projects exceed R29 billion (over C$2.7 billion).
Ashen Jugoo, Lara Bezuidenhoudt, Blaize Vance and Simone Bryson lead the Fasken teams, which included Samantha van Breda, Ndumiso Dyantyi, Johan Coetzee, Katy Kay, Margo Ann Werner, Alexandre Vaillant, Keabetswe Seate, Shadi Kekana and Kathryn Mitchell.
The PFI Yearbook 2019, considered all top international finance project events for the year.The African Programme of the Year award is a joint award for all entities involved in the REIPPP 4, including recognition of South African government departments.
The 11 projects comprised two wind energy projects developed by Mainstream Energy who Fasken advised as Borrower (Fasken has represented Mainstream Energy since the first bid in 2011),four wind and solar energy projects developed by Biotherm Energy in which Fasken advised the lenders (Nedbank, Vantage Green X and others) and a portfolio financing of five wind energy projects developed by Enel Energy for which Fasken advised the lenders (ABSA Bank and Nedbank). The Enel Energy portfolio financing is considered to be the largest single renewable energy financing in Africa.
