Johannesburg (South Africa) – Deanne Wood joins the Financial services team in the Corporate/Commercial group in Johannesburg, South Africa.
As a leader in her field Deanne specialises in the areas of commercial law, financial services and regulatory law (particularly employee benefits), pension law and insurance law. Her key competencies are leadership, problem solving and analysis, dispute resolution, regulatory and legislative implementation and strategic thinking.
Deanne’s prolific expertise has included a position as the CEO and Ombudsman of the Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance.
Her key achievements in this area are numerous and involved designing and implementing a new business model, introducing a paperless IT infrastructure and automated system processes, as well as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism. She guided the organisation through substantial change management and gained in-depth industry and regulatory knowledge.
Prior to joining Fasken, Deanne was an advocate at the Johannesburg Bar and was appointed as senior counsel by the State President. Before that she had worked as a product control and systems analyst in London for various merchant banks (Barclays Capital, Bank of America and HSBC).
