Vancouver (Canada) – For the fourth year in a row, Fasken has been acknowledged as legal advisor for the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) British Columbia’s Deal of the Year Award.
ACG BC recognizes TPG Growth's majority acquisition of SmartSweets Inc. as BC's Middle Market Deal of the Year for 2020. SmartSweets is a Vancouver-based better-for-you candy brand on a mission to kick sugar. Aiming to be a global leader in sugar reduction, SmartSweets offers innovative alternatives to traditional candy products with 87-92 per cent less sugar than traditional candy. The deal is a landmark transaction in the food and beverage industry and one of the highest dollar value private acquisitions outside of the resource sector in BC in 2020.
This award celebrates a leading British Columbia sell-side transaction, recognizing the executive team, as well as British Columbia-based professional firms and other individuals involved, whose excellence in executing the transaction led to an exceptional outcome.
The Fasken team was led by Ally Bharmal (M&A/Agribusiness) and Iain Mant (M&A). Others providing support on the transaction included Michael Coburn (Tax), Katie Peardon (Corporate), Reina Mistry (Corporate) and Lorene Novakowski (Employment). Fasken advised on the full M&A process, including negotiating non-disclosure agreements, structuring, and preparing bid draft documents, and negotiating and advising on deal structure and legal documentation.
