Overview

Toronto, November 4, 2021 – Fasken and the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) are partnering to provide early career development and advancement for young Black lawyers. The program will target first to third year associates and will be designed and developed by CABL with Fasken as the exclusive law firm sponsor and contributor. It is set to begin in the first quarter of 2022.

‘’Insight on the business side of law is usually acquired on the job. Having access to information about the different models through professional development can make a big difference towards career advancement. There is an immediate need for early career professional development and Fasken is proud to partner with CABL to make this happen,’’ said Andrew C. Alleyne, Fasken Partner.

“CABL and Fasken have been long-time partners. Our partnership has been very productive and has included members of Fasken serving in leadership positions on the CABL Board. We are very pleased to deepen our relationship through this collaboration. With the support of Fasken, CABL is committed to helping Black lawyers in the early years of their legal careers build a strong foundation that will serve them in their future careers,” said Raphael Tachie, President Canadian Association of Black Lawyers.

Fasken has a long standing relationship with CABL through its continued support of the Lucie and Thornton Blackburn Scholarship since it was inaugurated in 2009. The new partnership, set for five years with an option to renew, will see the Firm offering in-kind support towards the early career development program as well as continuing to support the scholarship. The Firm is committed to investing in opportunities to increase representation of Black lawyers within the legal community, support the development and advancement of Black talent and help dismantle barriers they may face.
