Overview

Quebec City (Canada) – Fasken welcomes Pierre-Christian Labeau as Counsel to the Environment, Energy and Climate Change group in our Quebec City office.

With over 30 years of experience, Pierre-Christian has extensive knowledge in the areas of Indigenous law, Constitutional law and Administrative law.  In particular, he acts as a negotiator for the Government of Quebec in territorial negotiations with several Indigenous communities. When he served as legal advisor with the Direction du droit autochtone et constitutionnel du ministère de la Justice, he represented the Attorney General of Quebec before the Supreme Court of Canada in a number of cases. During his time with a major international firm, he advised many natural resource developers, particularly in the mining sector, in negotiating agreements with Indigenous communities.

His expertise in Indigenous issues has been recognized over the years in a number of legal directories, including Best Lawyers in Canada, Chambers Canada and Lexpert. In addition, Pierre-Christian has lectured extensively on Indigenous law and has taught this subject at the Faculty of Law of Université Laval.

“We are very pleased to welcome Pierre-Christian to Fasken. His extensive knowledge of the Indigenous context in Quebec and Canada and his skills acquired over the past 30 years will be considerable assets,” says Carl Tremblay, Managing Partner for the Quebec City office. “With his vast and solid experience in many areas of law, Pierre-Christian will be able to support our clients, regardless of the industry in which they operate, and provide them with practical advice for their business in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada,” says Éric Bédard, Managing Partner for the Quebec Region.
