Toronto (Canada) – Martin Denyes has been elected the new Firm Managing Partner of Fasken, effective January 1, 2024.
For the past 13 years, Martin has served as Managing Partner of the Firm’s Ontario Region, with primary responsibility for leadership of its Toronto and Ottawa offices and as a member of its Partnership Board. He also played a management role for the Firm’s London UK office in 2015/16.
Martin has also served on the Firm’s U.S. Committee and its Finance Committee during his 31-year career. Additionally, he has had primary oversight of student, associate and partner recruitment as leader in Ontario.
“The Partnership Board would like to congratulate Martin on his election to the role and looks forward to the stability he brings given his lengthy experience with the Firm as we continue to support our clients’ success across markets,” said Katherine M. Pollock, Chair of the Firm’s Partnership Board. “We would also like to extend our thanks to Peter Feldberg for his unwavering commitment and leadership during his tenure.”
Before joining the leadership team, Martin practised labour and employment law. He built a practice listening to clients’ needs, working hand-in-hand with them from factory floors to mine sites to office towers, and delivering results that helped drive their businesses forward. He brings the same approach to supporting the Firm’s broader client base and its lawyers across the platform.
Martin obtained his LLB from Queen’s University and holds a Bachelor of Journalism degree from Carleton University.
He assumes the role from Peter Feldberg, who has held the position since 2015.
Peter continues to advance Fasken and leaves a strong legacy, as he completes his 9-year tenure as Firm Managing Partner. The Firm has grown significantly during his time in the role and is now the premier firm with the most lawyers in Canada. The Firm’s status has also risen under his leadership, with significant recognitions for Fasken and its lawyers including being named Corporate Law Firm of the Year (2022) by Chambers Canada, M&A Law Firm of the Year (2024) by Best Lawyers in Canada, the top law firm on Forbes and Statista’s Canada’s Best Employers 2023 list, and Global Mining Law Firm of the Year by Who’s Who Legal for 8 consecutive years, more times than any other law firm in the world.
Peter is known within the Firm for his thoughtful, level-headed, strategic, and collaborative approach to leadership. He has contributed tremendously to the collegial spirit of Fasken, connecting practices and lawyers across the Firm. During his tenure, he has been committed to advancing responsible business initiatives and has played a pivotal role in transforming Fasken into the innovative and inclusive law firm that it is today. His leadership has driven the Firm forward, creating a trajectory for success into the future.
