“Playing catch-up on copyright,” by Moira Donovan, CBA National Magazine

Ottawa partner Jay Kerr-Wilson comments on the joint lawsuit filed by six Canadian media companies against OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, for copyright infringement, in an article published in CBA National Magazine.

He commented, notably, on the difficulty for the court to determine what constitutes copyright infringement in the context of training large language models.

“AI is going to challenge a lot of the notions of copyright,” said partner Jay Kerr-Wilson.
