Overview

Raylene Smith brings a unique skillset to Fasken’s Knowledge and Practice Innovation team. She supports the litigation group with her diverse experience in both civil litigation and technology law.

Raylene Smith is a Knowledge and Practice Innovation lawyer, supporting Fasken’s Vancouver and Calgary litigation groups. Raylene works with these teams to optimize the use of legal technology and knowledge management resources.

Raylene began her career in civil litigation, with a particular focus on insurance. She has extensive experience guiding clients through the complexities of litigation, including the tools available to resolve matters prior to trial. Raylene has practiced with two leading litigation boutiques and appeared numerous times before the Provincial Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia. She has also supported senior counsel before the British Columbia Court of Appeal.

Prior to joining Fasken, Raylene worked as a corporate counsel at a leading Canadian technology company. During her time in-house, Raylene negotiated significant client and vendor deals and assisted with the day-to-day legal needs of the organization. This role allowed her to develop an in-depth understanding of legal needs from the perspective of a client, which she brings to her practice at Fasken.

Raylene received her JD from the University of British Columbia, where she was the recipient of multiple academic awards. In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts from Queens University.
