Ron Ezekiel is a leading Canadian energy and natural resources lawyer, and co-leader of Fasken's Global Energy and Climate Group. M&A and Project Development

Ron acts on both acquisitions and divestitures of energy and resource assets, including early-stage and operating renewables projects, mining projects, pipelines and gas processing and storage facilities. Project proponents value Ron's counsel on a variety of complex project development issues including, environmental assessments and permitting, impact benefit agreements and other agreements with First Nations, community benefit agreements, complex joint ventures and co-ownership arrangements, regulatory compliance, and structuring considerations for project finance.

Carbon markets and emissions trading

Ron assists clients active in the carbon market or other environmental commodities. He leverages his more than 20 years’ experience in this area to help bridge critical deal issues necessary to complete transactions. Ron's work in this area includes:

  • Defence of unprecedented federal environmental prosecution for Teck Coal, [Case - Teck Coal Limited], The Federal Crown approved charges under the Fisheries Act, alleging that Teck Coal had deposited or permitted the deposit of a deleterious substance, coal mine waste rock leachate, from two of its mines over a ten year period.
