Santhosh Valavi is a Senior Associate in the Corporate Commercial team, and his practice is primarily focused on Infrastructure and Public-Private partnerships.
In particular, Santhosh assisted the team that represented Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) through the complex and successful procurement process that addressed the interests of multiple jurisdictions and agencies, and which currently acts as the legal consultant to WDBA on the project which consisted of the design, build, maintenance and financing of the project on a public-private partnership basis.
Santhosh is Chair of the Land Acknowledgement Sub-committee, responsible for creating land acknowledgments for various Fasken offices, an initiative set out in our Reconciliation Plan to ensure that local Indigenous territories are appropriately acknowledged at Firm functions and that the Firm communicates positively, sensitively, and supportively about Indigenous history and cultures. He is also a member of the Communication Sub-committee and is responsible for ensuring that the Fasken Reconciliation Plan is regularly updated and available both within the Firm and externally.
Before joining Fasken, Santhosh completed an internship with the Department of Justice Canada (Toronto) - Aboriginal Division, where he worked on civil litigation files involving the federal government.
Santhosh enjoys a diverse practice that includes cross-jurisdictional as well as international transactional, advisory and litigation experience. Before relocating to Canada, he practiced business law in Dubai and litigation in India. In Dubai, he advised clients on legal and regulatory issues that impact their day-to-day business. In India, he regularly appeared in court and before administrative tribunals.
