Overview

Your Partner in Canada for Cross-Border Business Law

Fasken is a leading full service law firm with offices in all the major commercial centres in Canada. Our Firm has deep bench strength in cross-border M&A, private equity, corporate finance and litigation. We are involved in some of the most high profile and complex transactions and litigation in Canada and across our border.

Whether we are leading a transaction, or providing the support needed in Canada as a trusted partner to a transaction team, we ensure that deals are done in real time with the highest levels of service and advice. Our full service capabilities and offices in every major business centre in Canada provide us with the ability to support any aspect of a transaction or case and our various practice areas compliment our core strengths.

We are recognized by third party ranking agencies around the world. Our M&A Group is routinely at the top of league tables and our Litigation Group  is consistently ranked at the top of various categories, including class actions, product liability and securities related matters.

Some feedback we have received following cross-border work for clients:

“ Fasken came highly recommended by two independent, large firms in the US. Our company was undergoing a cross-border transaction, which was quite complex and required in-depth business considerations, regulatory advice, and Federal Commission interaction. The depth of knowledge and experience the Fasken attorneys brought to the table was astounding. ”

“ My firm engaged Fasken to assist us in connection with our private equity client’s acquisition. Our client and the entire deal team were very impressed with the work of the Fasken team. I frequently work with, and across from, top US firms as part of my private equity practice and the Fasken team was more responsive, more technically proficient and much easier to deal with. ”

We offer a comprehensive Acquiring a Canadian Public Company Guide that provides an overview of crucial legal considerations relevant to transactions involving the acquisition of a public company in Canada.  In addition, our Doing Business in Canada Guide provides a concise and practical overview of the country's legal and regulatory environment.

Innovation

To revolutionize the way we provide legal services, Fasken is developing technology to build expertise, improve processes and deliver incredible value for our clients. We deploy a suite of innovative tools to better enable our legal teams and clients. These include Fasken Edge, our online legal services and collaboration platform; Kira, our artificial intelligence integrated software for reviewing contracts; Cosine, a powerful budgeting tool that provides real time budget-to-actual data and threshold notifications; Fasken InHouse, an innovative monthly retainer-based service model; and ACL (Automated Civil Litigation), an efficiency tool used to automate the creation of court forms, among others.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

We support numerous diversity initiatives throughout the Firm. Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, consisting of firm Board-level representation, is responsible for developing our diversity policies and procedures. Most notably, Fasken has achieved Mansfield Rule 4.0 Plus Certification confirming at least 30 per cent women, LGBTQ+ and minority lawyers were considered for 70 per cent or more of significant leadership roles at the Firm. As part of our broad range of diversity and inclusion initiatives, the Firm supports various groups and organizations including the National Bar Association and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
