The project was procured pursuant to the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme initiated by the Department of Energy. This was a greenfield project, developed on a BOO (build, own and operate) basis located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa with a net generation capacity of 50 MW with 9 hours of thermal energy storage. Once completed it will be a CSP power plant with the longest amount of thermal storage in the world. This project has been recognized as the “African Renewable Deal of the Year” in 2013 by Project Finance International published by Thomson Reuters. Fasken Martineau advised lenders in respect of financing of the project with a team that included Blaize Vance, Ashen Jugoo, Mike Van Vuren, John Janks, Jamie MacDonald, Matthew Burnell, Simone Bryson, Carey-Anne Sallie, Tamsyn Zulch and Katy Kay.
