On December 6, 2018, Champlain, a Canadian private equity firm, concluded a series of transactions by which it acquired the Cape Bald Packers, Ltd. group, which include operating entities Cape Bald Packers, Ltd., based in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Cavendish Seafoods Inc., based in Prince Edward Island, and Down East Specialty Products, Inc., based in Maine. The Cape Bald Group operates as a primary processor and distributor of Atlantic lobster, snow crab and mussels in Eastern Canada and the United States.
This acquisition marks a further expansion of an existing platform for Champlain, who successfully acquired Cheticamp Fisheries International Ltd. and Riverside Lobster International Inc. in 2017, as well as Petit de Grat Packers, Ltd. and certain assets of Premium Seafoods Limited earlier in 2018.
