Overview

Client

Veolia Canada

Fasken represented Veolia Canada in the negotiation of a single collective agreement applying to 15 different workplaces throughout Québec, covering approximately 500 workers.

Veolia is the world’s leading provider of environmental solutions and has activities in three main service and utility areas: water management, waste management and energy services. The multinational operates in 48 countries and has more than 180,000 employees worldwide.

The negotiations began during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the summer of 2020, and were further impacted by a worker strike. Used as a pressure tactic, the strike involved all 15 workplaces who came to a concerted stop for one full day. The collective agreement was finalized in May 2021 and is valid for a 5-year period.

In Québec, it is rare that a collective agreement covers more than one workplace at a time. This negotiation once again highlights Fasken’s involvement and unparalleled expertise in complex collective agreement negotiations involving several workplaces under one same agreement.

A Fasken team composed of Rhéaume Perreault, Charles Wagner, Raphaël Buruiana and Louis-Thomas Bélanger represented Veolia Canada in connection with this case.
