The Régie de l'énergie sided with Flumen Energy concerning its Matane project.
In January 2020, the Flumen Energy project in Matane was selected as part of a call for tenders issued by Hydro-Québec to allocate a block of 300 megawatts (MW) to the cryptocurrency market.
However, on December 22, 2023, Hydro-Québec unilaterally decided to suspend the project. Given the importance of the project to the region’s economy, Flumen Energy asked Hydro-Québec to review its decision and, when Hydro-Québec refused, it brought the matter before the Régie de l'énergie.
In its decision, the Régie de l'énergie stated that Hydro-Québec must respect its commitments to Flumen Energy and execute the agreement.
A Fasken team composed of Frédéric Legendre and Marie-Pierre Boudreau represented Flumen Energy Inc. in connection with this matter.
