FortisBC Energy Inc., the largest gas distribution utility in the province, applied to and received acceptance from the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) of Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity for transmission integrity management projects for the utility’s coastal and interior transmission systems.
The projects consisted of gas pipeline and infrastructure upgrades to accommodate new in-line inspection technology and requirements needed to detect cracking threats to the pipeline.
Following extensive public regulatory processes, the BCUC granted CPCNs for the projects on May 18, 2022 and January 15, 2024.
Chris Bystrom (Energy) and Niall Rand (Energy) acted as lead counsel for FortisBC providing full regulatory support.
