In response to customer complaints, FortisBC Inc., the second largest electric utility in BC, was directed by the Utilities Commission to file for a CPCN for the Fruitvale Substation Project.
The Project involves the construction of a new substation in Fruitvale, and the decommissioning of two existing substations currently serving the area.
Chris Bystrom and Niall Rand were lead regulatory counsel for FortisBC. By Order C-4-24, on September 4, 2024, FortisBC received a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for the project, overcoming local and intervener opposition to the Project.
