Cole Halbert is engaged in a diverse corporate/commercial practice in which he acts for both private and public companies. In particular, his practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions as well as cross-border transactions, in addition to private equity, venture capital, corporate finance, and corporate governance matters.
Cole completed his Juris Doctor degree at Western University, where he was the recipient of awards including the Beryl E. Theobald Scholarship and the Global & Intercultural Engagement Honour. While there, Cole was an active member of the student community. In addition to working as a Research Assistant for Dean Erika Chamberlain in the area of tort law, he served as the Chair of the Canada-U.S. Law Institute’s Student Committee and helped lead organizations such as the Business Law Society and International Law Association. He was also a peer mentor, orientation week leader, volunteer with Pro Bono Students Canada, and Teaching Assistant for the “Legal Research, Writing and Advocacy” course.
Prior to law school, Cole earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Markets & Management Studies from Duke University, where he graduated magna cum laude and received numerous academic honours. He is also an alumnus of the Business Bridge program at Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business.
In his spare time, Cole is an avid traveller; he has visited over forty-five countries and has lived, studied, or worked in various cities worldwide, including Geneva and Copenhagen. When he is not watching Duke basketball, Cole enjoys playing tennis, skiing, snowboarding, and listening to TED Talks.
Cole summered and articled with the firm, during which time he completed a secondment to the Canadian Olympic Committee. He subsequently joined Fasken as an associate in the firm’s Capital Markets and Mergers & Acquisitions group.
