In this seminar, we explain, through various case studies, the framework applicable to the hire and employment of temporary foreign workers in Canada. Depending on the program and type of permit under which employers hire temporary foreign workers, such employers are faced with several legal obligations that they must follow with respect to their temporary foreign workers, or be imposed sanctions varying in severity if they are found to be non-compliant. The inspection process, used by Employment and Social Development Canada or Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, depending on the program, to assess compliance will also be discussed.
The discussion between the speakers will include the following topics:
- The different programs and work permits pertaining to the hire of temporary foreign workers
- Employers’ obligations, both general and program-specific, pertaining to the hire and employment of temporary foreign workers
- The inspection process and consequences for non-compliance of employers with their legal obligations pertaining to the hire and employment of temporary foreign workers
- Presentation of case studies relating to employer obligations and consequences for non-compliance
