Overview

On October 13, 2023, the Globe & Mail published an article authored by Niall McGee entitled: Canada wants to be a global leader in critical minerals. Why is Australia eating our lunch?. The article discussed the important presence of Australian miners exploring for critical minerals in Canada, the reasons for their presence and why Canadian companies where not having as much success. In the Province of Québec, several Australian miners made some significant discoveries in 2023, notably in the James Bay region, and their presence has definitely been felt and noticed by the industry. The panel will discuss what makes Québec so attractive for Australian miners, the investment / regulatory climate that contributed to their discoveries, how Canadian companies working in the area view this presence and how they can benefit from these discoveries.
