Below are the key government announcements made on July 14, 2020 that touch on workplace issues.

The Federal Government

There were no major government updates as of 5:00 p.m. E.D.T. on July 14, 2020.

Alberta

There were no major government updates as of 5:00 p.m. E.D.T. on July 14, 2020.

British Columbia

The government introduced proposed amendments to the Workers Compensation Act, including a proposed amendment which would eliminate the minimum 90 day waiting period for any regulation related to occupational disease caused by a communicable viral pathogen such as COVID-19.

Manitoba

The government announced that the provincial State of Emergency has been extended for an additional 30 days.

New Brunswick

The government announced that it has amended its essential worker wage top-up program. The program will now include private sector home care support workers and early learning and childcare enhanced support workers who provide direct client care. Further information is available here (PDF).

Newfoundland and Labrador

There were no major government updates as of 5:00 p.m. E.D.T. on July 14, 2020.

Nova Scotia

There were no major government updates as of 5:00 p.m. E.D.T. on July 14, 2020.

Ontario

On July 13, 2020, the government filed regulations (available here and here) which implement Stage 3 of the provincial reopening plan. Among other things, the regulations provide requirements for those permitted to reopen, permitted activities, and allowable gatherings and events under Stage 3.

Stage 3 commences at 12:01 a.m. E.D.T. on July 17, 2020 in all regions of the province except in the following:

  1. City of Hamilton Health Unit;
  2. City of Toronto Health Unit;
  3. Durham Regional Health Unit;
  4. Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit;
  5. Halton Regional Health Unit.
  6. Lambton Health Unit;
  7. Niagara Regional Area Health Unit;
  8. Peel Regional Health Unit;
  9. York Regional Health Unit; and
  10. Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.

Prince Edward Island

The Chief Public Health Officer strongly recommended that residents and visitors to the province wear a face mask or covering in indoor spaces.

Quebec

There were no major government updates as of 5:00 p.m. E.D.T. on July 14, 2020.

Saskatchewan

There were no major government updates as of 5:00 p.m. E.D.T. on July 14, 2020.

Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the Yukon

There were no major government updates in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the Yukon as of 5:00 p.m. E.D.T. on July 14, 2020.
