Gabriel Stern, an associate at Fasken Martineau in Toronto who practises in the area of information technology law, says cybersecurity is an important issue for Canada and the U.S. and their interests are the same, so it makes sense for them to work together on cyber issues.
“You can just see co-operation happening because it has to,” he says. “You have your own security guys able to chase someone down the rabbit hole only to realize that the hacker is not in your country and you may have to co-ordinate or figure out where they are.”
Stern says it’s important for the two countries to co-operate because cyberattacks can arise from anywhere.
