“First deadline for meeting new anti-slavery disclosure act reveals ‘confusion and improvisation’,” by Zena Olijnyk, Canadian Lawyer

Montréal lawyer Marie-Christine Valois and Vancouver lawyer Dani Bryant comment on the uncertainties related to Canada’s new anti-slavery disclosure requirements in an article published in Canadian Lawyer.

“Likely the government was ill prepared for the coming into force of this new legislation, starting with the guidance that was issued less than two weeks before the act came into force,” said lawyer Marie-Christine Valois.

“Public Safety Canada had a short runway to provide guidance, and that short runway extended to clients trying to figure out whether they had reporting obligations under the act,” said lawyer Dani Bryant.
