Ottawa partner Clifford Sosnow comments on the legal recourse available to Canada in response to U.S. tariffs, in an article published by The Canadian Press.
He notably comments on the fact that while Canada may have to get ahead of the CUSMA dispute settlement process, it’s still important it goes through those steps.
“Ultimately the result of the (grievance) process is compliance, and if there’s no compliance, retaliation, and so in many ways, you’re back to square one,” said partner Clifford Sosnow. “But symbolically and legally, it has important aspects to it, because it effectively for Canada is an affirmation of the importance of the agreement.”
