Overview

Client

La Presse Ltée and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation/Société Radio-Canada

In November 2020, a hearing at the Supreme Court was held in connection with a motion filed by Média QMI to lift a sealing order and be provided access to the contents of the court’s record, including exhibits in support of the originating pleading, in a file concerning the misappropriation of funds by a manager of a public health entity.

A Fasken team comprised of Christian Leblanc and Patricia Hénault represented two prominent medias, La Presse and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation/Société Radio-Canada, as interveners in this important case on free access to court records and its importance for constitutional rights such as the public’s right to information, free expression, and freedom of the press.
