Fasken is acting for Vigi Santé in a class action instituted in connection with events that occurred following the COVID-19 crisis in long-term care centers (CHSLDs). During the earlier weeks of the pandemic, Vigi Santé, which is the largest private funded long-term care facility in Canada, was one of the most affected by COVID-19 in the Canadian health network.
A class action has been initiated against Vigi Santé by the estate of a woman who died due to COVID-19, and on behalf of residents (a possibility of more than 1500) and their relatives/interested parties, claiming that Vigi Santé failed to provide basic care to residents, and did not follow provincial and national norms and guidelines.
A Fasken team composed of Eric Simard, Charlie Marineau, Stéphanie Lavallée, Nicolas-Karl Perrault and Lucie Lanctuit advised Vigi Santé in connection with this case.
