On March 24, 2022, Rogers Communications Inc. ("Rogers") received Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission ("CRTC" or "the Commission") approval under the Broadcasting Act (the "Act") for its application to acquire all of the issued and outstanding shares of Shaw Communications Inc. ("Shaw"), as well as its broadcasting subsidiaries, the value of which accounts for a majority of the reported C$25 billion purchase price.
The CRTC concluded that the transaction, as modified by the Commission, is in the public interest and advances the objectives set out for the Canadian broadcasting system in the Broadcasting Act, and that Canadians as consumers will benefit from this transaction.
