In an action in damages resulting from water damage caused by a leak brought on by a sprinkler pipe freezing in rented offices, the plaintiff, a video game developer, is claiming almost $1,000,000 for damage caused by the incident, including lost productivity.

Various parties are being sued in this matter, including the landlord, the general contractor responsible for leasehold improvements, and the subcontractors responsible for the ventilation work and fire protection work. Our client was called in warranty as the manufacturer of a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit installed on the roof of the building. It is alleged that the sprinkler pipe could have frozen as a result of cold air leaking into the air return duct connected to the HVAC unit while the unit was not in operation.

A team composed of Ponora Ang, Nicolas-Karl Perrault and Xin Jia Wang is representing the HVAC unit manufacturer in this matter.
