On November 16, 2023, Deep Sky, a Montreal-based carbon removal project developer, announced the closing of its $75 million Series A funding round, co-led by Brightspark Ventures and Whitecap Venture Partners. The round also included major participation from Investissement Québec, OMERS Ventures, and BDC Capital’s Climate Tech Fund.
This new funding will be allocated towards planning and building Deep Sky's inaugural commercial facility, expanding its team, developing a carbon removal software for carbon credit sales, and support its Alpha research facility, the first carbon removal research center in the world.
This transaction is part of Brightspark Ventures and BDC’s Climate Tech Fund commitment to play a leadership role in the creation and support of world-class Canadian cleantech champions, and to invest in the scale-up and deployment of low-carbon technologies.
Fasken advised Brightspark Ventures and BDC’s Climate Tech Fund in this transaction with a team led by Michel Boislard and Guillaume Synnott, including Julien Fournier and Marianne Khairi-Arancibia.
