Fasken is pleased to release its Canadian Proxy Contest Study - 2018 Update.

Our 2018 Update offers a review of proxy contest activity in Canada over the past year and follows on from our ground-breaking 2013 Canadian Proxy Contest Study and its companions the Canadian Proxy Contest Study – 2014 Update, Canadian Proxy Contest Study – 2015 Update, Canadian Proxy Contest Study – 2016 Update, and the Canadian Proxy Contest Study – 2017 Update.

Highlights from the 2018 Update include:

1. The number of formal proxy contests held steady.
2. Dissidents ended management’s three-year winning streak.
3. Solicitations by public broadcast remained relatively infrequent.
4. Micro-cap companies remained the focus of the action.
5. Institutional activists came off the sidelines and had some success.
