Overview

Please note that this Fasken Institute will be held in French only.

Economic immigration is a much talked about topic. Employers who hire foreign workers have to comply with a strict compliance regime, failing which they are subject to sanctions. Occupational health and safety is one of these obligations.

During this training, we will answer questions that many employers have about labour law issues arising during a temporary foreign worker’s employment period.

Some of the questions to be discussed include:

  • How should an employer manage a workplace accident where the worker has an expired work permit?
  • Does an employer have a duty to provide a foreign worker with access to health care?
  • What happens if a foreign worker returns to their home country while injured?
  • How does one manage a CNESST file remotely?
  • When a foreign worker has an accident, what is the impact of their having a valid or expired work permit?
